Jonathan Kodjia has spoken to The Guardian this week about the expectations of Aston Villa fans at his new club.

The Ivory Coast international made what could become a Championship record move to Villa Park last month.

He had impressed at Bristol City in the Championship and is now being tasked with helping to fire Aston Villa back to the Premier League along with strike partner Ross McCormack.

The talented front-man understands the pressure on him and the rest of the players at Aston Villa from their passionate fans. He also believes that once Villa are in full-form they will be unstoppable:

“We know that the fans expect wins and we need that, too, so that we can be a bit happier in training.

“We have a lot of new players and all we need is time for everyone to gel. We have players with immense qualities and a manager who has won the Champions League, and knows football very well.

“We have everything going for us. It’s just about fine-tuning details, getting a bit more luck and, also, becoming more killer in front of goal. Once we’ve done that, I don’t think anyone will be able to stop us. People are going to be pleasantly surprised.”

At the moment Villa have struggled to find their best form in the second-tier.

They are currently sitting 18th in the Championship after six games without a win and they have just one win in the competition this season.

But there is undoubtedly reason to be cheerful at Villa Park, with Kodjia one such cause.

Next up for the club it is fellow relegated side Newcastle United, who have adapted much quicker to Championship life.

Kodjia will be hoping he can find the back of the net and send a message to the rest of the division – that Aston Villa are looking to surge up the table.
