Glasgow Rangers are still looking for their next permanent manager following Mark Warburton’s departure.
Billy Davies
Jonathan Greening has told The Scottish Sun that after working with him at Nottingham Forest, he feels that Billy Davies is the perfect candidate for the Rangers job.
The Gers are currently looking for Mark Warburton’s permanent successor and current interim boss Graeme Murty appeared to do little to help his chances of being given the job long-term as he oversaw a defeat to Dundee at the weekend.
Davies has been amongst the long list of names that have been discussed by supporters or have been linked since the vacancy came up, and Greening – who continues to play non-league football – has backed the 52-year-old to be a major success if he is given the job at Ibrox based on his experience playing under Davies at the City Ground.
“Rangers is a massive club. They need someone to come in and do a great job and I’d back Billy to do that 100 percent,” he told The Scottish Sun.

“Every big job that comes up I expect him to be the front runner for it,” he would go on to add.
“He would demand good attractive football with lots of goals, play on the front foot, be well organised and hard to beat.
“For me he’s the only fit for the job at the moment.”

What is interesting, and perhaps being noted by the Rangers hierarchy is that Greening is not the first player who played under Davies to back the former Forest boss for the role.
Wes Morgan also spoke up for Davies and insisted that the Gers would not be as far behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table had his old boss been in charge (via The Scottish Sun).
And with the Rangers squad seemingly in desperate need of some inspiration before the season comes to an end, the fact that two of Davies’ former players have spoken so glowingly about his capabilities should surely give him an excellent chance of getting the job.
