As quoted by Brazilian TV station Globo Esporte, striker Jonathan Calleri has confirmed that he is joining West Ham United this summer.

The Hammers have been searching for a new striker all summer, and having missed out on a number of targets, they now appear to be closing in on a new signing.

Argentine hitman Jonathan Calleri has made quite the name for himself over the last two years, having smashed 23 goals in 59 games for Boca Juniors.

That form earned him a bizarre third party-driven move to Deportivo Maldonado in Uruguay, who loaned him straight out to Brazilian club Sao Paulo in January of this year.

Calleri has since scored 16 goals in 26 appearances for Sao Paulo, and appears to have earned himself a big move to Europe this summer, once he has finished playing at the Olympic Games for Argentina.

After weeks of speculation, the 22-year-old has spoken about his future, and as quoted by Brazilian TV station Globo Esporte, he has confirmed he is signing for West Ham – and wants to adapt quickly in the Premier League having wanted a move to Europe.

“My move to West Ham is done,” said Calleri. “I hope to adapt quickly, I wanted to play in Europe,” he added, though the report adds that there is just one more obstacle left to clear, as Calleri needs a work permit to play in England.

West Ham have had some successful Argentinians in recent memory, as Carlos Tevez and Manuel Lanzini have both been fan favourites in East London, and Calleri will be hoping to emulate both of those compatriots, rather than have a similar fate to fellow Argentinian Mauro Zarate, who failed to make much of an impact in claret and blue.

Do you think Calleri would be a good signing for West Ham?
