Jonathan Bamba is reportedly close to a move to Celta Vigo, with the French winger set to snub signing for the LA Galaxy this summer.

According to RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins, the former LOSC Lille attacker has decided to move to La Liga with Celta Vigo, who this summer were taken over by former Liverpool and Real Madrid manager Rafa Benitez ahead of the new season.

RMC Sport had reported on Sunday that the Galaxy were interested in signing Bamba alongside a whole host of European clubs. Yet the 27-year-old has opted to take his talents to Spain with Celta Vigo, where Benitez’s presence could have been a factor.

Indeed, Bamba could have been an incredible signing for the Galaxy this summer. Yet with the forward now snubbing a move to California, Greg Vanney will now have to tip his toes back into the market for a versatile attacker to add to his squad.

Bamba’s age and attacking profile would have made the winger a top prospect in MLS with the Galaxy. However, as is the way for many European-based transfer rumors, the forward has now chosen to stay clear of a transatlantic move to sign for Celta Vigo.

As for the Galaxy, missing out on Bamba will hurt. Yet with the free agent market as strong as it has been in some years and MLS’ profile hitting new heights thanks to Lionel Messi, a new target could quickly emerge for the American soccer giants in the weeks to come.
