Mark Warburton’s Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are struggling.
Former Rangers striker Jonatan Johansson has told The Evening Times that it was great to see Martyn Waghorn score a hat-trick in the League Cup win over Queen of the South last week.
Rangers put a disapointing few Premiership results to one side by smashing the Championship outfit 5-0 at Ibrox eight days ago.
It was a particularly fruitful night for Waghorn, who netted three second-half goals to announce his return in style following an absence through injury.
The English hitman had spent over a month on the sidelines, which was his second layoff of the calendar year, but Johansson, who spent three years with the Gers, is hopeful that his return can spark a bit of life into his old club now.
He told The GET: “It was great to see Martyn Waghorn getting a hat-trick in the Betfred Cup against Queen of the South South last week.
“He has struggled with injury this season. It will help them having him back.”
Waghorn netted over 20 Championship goals last season but he is finding it tougher with the Premiership qualities since Rangers’ promotion.
He has netted once in four top-flight appearances this season. He has eight in all competitions, but seven of those were in the League Cup against the likes of QoS, Stranraer, Annan and Motherwell.
There is definitely a question mark over his capacity to perform against the big boys, but he is slowly but surely becoming a fitter specimen with every game, which could see a spike in his goals against top-tier clubs shortly.
