Rangers goalkeeper Robby McCrorie is impressing out on loan.
Morton manager Jonatan Johansson has heaped praise on goalkeeper Robby McCrorie despite a 2-1 defeat at Dundee United on Saturday afternoon.
The Terrors were 2-0 up inside half an hour, as Pavol Safranko and Peter Pawlett had Robbie Neilson’s side flying in the first half.
Morton did hit back in the second half, as Bob McHugh scored with 16 minutes to play, but they couldn’t find a leveller as Dundee United ran out 2-1 winners.
With one point in the last three games, there hasn’t been much for Morton fans to shout about of late, but boss Johansson did hail one player.
Speaking to BBC Sport after the game at Tannadice yesterday, Johansson suggested that the scoreline would have been even worse if it wasn’t for goalkeeper McCrorie turning in a superb display.
“The way we performed in the first half was unacceptable, especially from a few of my defensive players,” said Johansson. “They looked like they didn’t want to be on the pitch, they looked scared and it was easy for Dundee United in the first half . Without Robbie [McCrorie] it would have been more,” he added.
McCrorie, 20, is currently on loan at Morton from Rangers, with the Gers helping out their former striker and coach with a deal until the end of the season.
The young goalkeeper has been tipped for a bright future, and his performance against Dundee United will have fans encouraged about him breaking through at Rangers in the future.
Boss Steven Gerrard will certainly be delighted; he knows that first-choice stopper Allan McGregor is inching closer to 40, and having a promising young goalkeeper to eventually take over would be ideal.
McCrorie’s loan move is set up to provide him with that exposure to first-team football, and his superb showing with a host of saves is just what Gerrard and co wanted to see.
