Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a blow in their reported pursuit of Borussia Monchengladbach winger Jonas Hofmann, after the German star commented on his future – as quoted by German outlet Sport.

German newspaper Bild claimed earlier this month that Spurs had made contact with Gladbach in a bid to sign the 26-year-old wide man, who is renowned for his blistering speed and excellent crossing from the right flank.

But this season, the Germany Under-21 international has been converted into an attacking midfielder and it has brought the best out of him – scoring six goals and creating seven more in 15 games.

Amid speculation over his future and even a potential move to Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham, Hofmann denied the rumours and gave a brief comment on his future, stating: “Gladbach is better at the moment [for me].”

Spurs could be in the market for attackers between now and January 31, after losing Harry Kane to a long-term ankle injury while Son Heung-min is representing South Korea at the Asian Cup.

It saw Pochettino’s side suffer against struggling Fulham on Sunday, as they finally edged past Claudio Ranieri’s side with a 2-1 win at Craven Cottage thanks to goals from Dele Alli and Harry Winks.

But the lack of a talismanic striker and goalscoring winger Son was more than apparent. New additions are required, but it looks as though Hofmann wants to remain at Gladbach.
