There’s growing speculation that Serena Williams is set to return to the pro circuit.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that she’ll be eligible to return as of 22 February.

That follows her required six-month period in the anti-doping testing pool.

Fans have been debating where she might make her comeback. Some think it could be Indian Wells, while others believe she’ll partner with her sister Venus at the US Open.

But tennis journalist Jon Wertheim has picked up on a different rumour.

Wertheim hears talk of Serena Williams eyeing Wimbledon return

Jon Wertheim shared his thoughts on Williams’ possible comeback during a recent episode of ‘Served with Andy Roddick’.

“I’ve got to say, I think this is great,” Wertheim said.

“We learned our lesson from Lindsey Vonn to Novak [Djokovic]. If Serena [Williams] still thinks she’s got some juice that can be squeezed, go nuts.

“It would be one of the great tennis stories of 2026.

He spoke about the idea of her returning in mixed doubles or heading back to Wimbledon, where her last match didn’t sit well with her. “I think it’s great.”

The American also commented on Williams’ use of the weight-loss medication she promotes.

The American journalist also talked about whether there might be any issues for Williams regarding the weight-loss medication she promotes. “I looked into this; these GLP, weight loss drugs, are on a WADA monitor list, but they are legal, so that would not be an impediment,” Wertheim said.

“I think it’s great; I think she would be absolutely welcomed back. If this is writing more chapters if this is about playing in front of her kids, this should not be a point of debate; this should be welcomed.”

Serena Williams hasn’t ruled out a tennis comeback

Williams was asked about the possibility of returning to tennis during an appearance on the Today Show in January.

“I don’t know, I’m just going to see what happens,” she replied. When host Savannah Guthrie followed up, pointing out that it sounded like a maybe, Williams clarified her stance:

“It’s not a maybe,” said Williams.

Whether or not we see Williams back on the court remains to be seen, but there’s no question that fans are eager to find out. She’ll be eligible to return in just under two weeks’ time.
