Arnautovic is keen to leave West Ham this month, and Spurs need an attacker.
Jonathan Walters has told BBC Sport that West Ham United striker Marko Arnautovic is “ready-made” for Tottenham Hotspur, after discussing who could replace Harry Kane.
Kane, 25, suffered an ankle injury against Manchester United on Sunday and is likely to be sidelined until the middle of March, meaning he would miss a whole host of crucial games for Spurs.
The club have Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen as other options up front, but the duo have hardly set the world alight. The two strikers have scored a combined 15 goals for Spurs, in 83 appearances.
Arnautovic has been linked with a £45million move to the Chinese Super League, but the Austrian’s former Stoke City teammate Walters reckons he would be the perfect signing for Spurs this month.
“I believe you always need one new face in the summer,” Walters said. “You knew Son was going away so they’d need all their strikers. Llorente perhaps doesn’t fit how they want to play. I can’t see them getting someone in the window.
“A lot of big teams don’t do big business in January. To bring someone in is a risk. But if it comes down to it they may have to spend a bit of money. Arnautovic – his brother has made noises.
“It happened at Stoke. The money in China is a major factor for going there but he’d be ready made to go into a Tottenham team. He’s a phenomenal player, good guy and would fit right in. Would West Ham sell him to Tottenham?”
Arnautovic, 29, has been excellent since moving to east London, scoring 19 goals in 53 league and cup appearances as well as creating 10 more goals in assists.
It is believed West Ham want a fee of around £50million for Arnautovic, which would see Spurs smash their transfer record – which stands at £42million for defender Davinson Sanchez.
But the likelihood of West Ham selling to bitter rivals Tottenham is unlikely, while Arnautovic looks set on a move to China with Shanghai SIPG interested in his services.
