Jon Rahm has criticised the PGA Tour for its handling of Pat Perez’s case, calling the league’s approach to suspensions ridiculous.
His comments follow reports that Perez’s broadcasting work with LIV Golf could prevent him from joining the PGA Tour Champions later this year.

Speaking on the Golf’s Subpar podcast, Jon Rahm — who joined LIV Golf himself in late 2025 — said he didn’t understand why Pat Perez’s media work was being treated the same way as playing in events.
“That’s absolutely ridiculous. I’m sorry, the fact that those two guys get the same punishment with broadcasting – I won’t say much more on that, but that’s a little ridiculous.”
Perez, a three-time PGA Tour winner, was originally suspended after joining LIV Golf in 2022 and later served as an on-course commentator.
The PGA Tour has actually used his recent commentator duties, which last took place in August, to add time to the suspension.
PGA Tour policy faces growing scrutiny
The PGA Tour’s Non-Member Policy states that any player involved with unauthorized events cannot compete on PGA-sanctioned tours for 12 months after their last appearance or promotion.
The rule was originally designed to stop players from moving freely between the Tour and LIV Golf, but its reach now includes media roles as well as playing.
Perez’s last LIV broadcast was during the Michigan Invitational in August 2025. Because of the 12-month window, he wouldn’t be eligible for PGA Tour Champions events until late 2026 — a decision Rahm and others believe is too strict.
As more LIV Golf players consider returns or look to join other tours, debate over the PGA Tour’s disciplinary approach is likely to intensify.
For now, Rahm’s comments highlight the growing sense of frustration among players caught between golf’s competing organisations.
