Rhodes’ actions have angered some section of the Sheffield Wednesday support.

Jon Newsome has leapt to Jordan Rhodes’ defence, after the Sheffield Wednesday striker declined to take a penalty in last night’s shout-out defeat at the hands of Huddersfield Town.
It was Fernando Forestieri’s miss that ultimately denied the Owls a place in the Championship play-off final, after the two teams ended the 120 minutes level at 1-1.

However, it is Rhodes who has borne the brunt of the fans’ frustrations, after head coach Carlos Carvalhal confirmed the Scot was not among his first five volunteers.
Wednesday could end up paying around £10 million for the on-loan Middlesbrough player, whose deal becomes permanent this summer, and he is thought to be among the club’s highest earners – which appears to have formed the the basis of many of his critics’ arguments.
However, according to Newsome, who had two spells at Hillsborough as a player, Rhodes was actually doing the team a favour by not putting himself forward.
He posted on Twitter:
Rhodes, who was playing against his former club, has not scored a penalty since late 2015 for Blackburn Rovers, with his only one in Wednesday colours being saved by Leeds United goalkeeper Robert Green.
