Even though Nate Diaz built a reputation around being a gangster, Jon Jones has raised doubts about that persona.
Diaz’s image as a tough guy helped him build one of the strongest followings in MMA. Fans connected with how authentic he seemed, never afraid to speak his mind or take on anyone, no matter the consequences.
His fighting style also drew fans in. He never backed down from a challenge and always looked to put on a show. He fought big names like Conor McGregor and Donald Cerrone, adding to his popularity.
But despite how widely accepted that image was, Jones has publicly questioned it and shared his own view of the UFC veteran.
Jon Jones shares why he does not see Nate Diaz as a gangster after time together

The two UFC legends were unexpectedly lined up to face off earlier this year, but not in the way fans might expect.
Instead of meeting in the cage or ring, Jones and Diaz were set to coach against each other on Alf Reality, the Russian version of The Ultimate Fighter.
However, filming did not last long for Diaz. He left the show after being attacked by one of the contestants, which then led to a feud with some Dagestani fighters who happened to be in Thailand at the time.
During their time together in Thailand, Jones got a closer look at the Stockton native and came away with a different perspective than most fans might expect about him.
He said to Sports 24: “Nate is not a gangster, you know, Nate is a professional athlete, I think he’s a father, he’s a coach, he’s a business owner, he’s an entrepreneur, he’s a leader, he hires many people.
“And yeah he smokes weed and he may give you a middle finger, but the guy actually is far from a gangster and he’s a really great guy and it sucks that (he left the show) and honestly, I think if they fought behind the camera, it would have been bad news for Zadik, I mean, he is Nate Diaz.”
Nate Diaz eyeing high-profile UFC return against rising star
Diaz’s last appearance in the UFC came back in 2022, where he secured a win over Tony Ferguson in a memorable bout.
Since then, he has not stayed quiet about the possibility of returning to the organisation, even while taking on Jake Paul and Jorge Masvidal in the boxing world.
This week, Diaz said he is looking at a potential comeback fight against Paddy Pimblett, who has become one of Britain’s most talked-about fighters.
While Diaz remains on good terms with the UFC, there is still no confirmation that a return is on the cards.
