Jon Jones was surprised by the UFC 303 upset
Jon Jones was in attendance as a new light heavyweight champion was crowned at UFC 303.
Carlos Ulberg stopped Jiri Prochazka in the first round, pulling off the biggest win of his career and claiming the vacant 205-pound title in style.
What made this result even more remarkable was the leg injury Ulberg suffered early on. He could be out for the rest of the year because of it, but still found a way to get it done.
Bones clearly wasn’t expecting that outcome.

Jon Jones’ live reaction to Ulberg-Prochazka was pure shock
During UFC 327, the signing of Gable Steveson was confirmed, and he appeared on the broadcast alongside Jon Jones, who has taken on a mentorship role in his transition to MMA.
That put Jones in a front-row seat for the night’s main event, watching from close up as a new champion was decided in the division he once dominated.
TNT Sports later shared footage showing just how surprised Jones was to see Carlos Ulberg fight through an injury and still come out on top against Prochazka.
Jones held the light heavyweight title across two different reigns but never actually lost it inside the Octagon. He vacated it in 2020 after deciding to move up to heavyweight, leaving behind a division that has seen plenty of change since then.
Since then, seven different fighters have held the 205-pound gold that Jones’ career is so synonymous with.
Ulberg’s recent win extended his own streak at 205 pounds. His run now stands at ten straight victories — second only to Jones himself, who holds the divisional record with 13 consecutive wins.
