Rangers defender Jon Flanagan has told The Herald that he wants to be at Ibrox next season.

The former Liverpool full-back has also stated that he wants to sign a new contract with Rangers.

The 26-year-old joined Rangers in the summer of 2018 on a two-year contract, as announced on the Gers’ official website.

The full-back, who earned an England cap back in 2014, has made only eight starts and just two substitute appearances in the Scottish Premiership for Rangers so far this season, according to WhoScored.

Flanagan has made it clear that he wants to be at Rangers next season despite failing to establish himself in manager Steven Gerrard’s starting lineup this campaign.

Flanagan told The Herald: “I’m 100 per cent behind the manager. I want to be here, I want to be a part of it, I want to get a new contract and be here for many years.

“I’m 100 per cent wanting this. It’s been tough being out of it, everyone wants to play every game. But it’s not going to be possible.

“We’ve got a big squad with everyone fighting for places. But when called upon you’ve just got to perform well and try and stay in the team.”

Rangers stay?

Flanagan is a very good full-back who was described by former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers as “a terrific boy” back in December 2013 when he was in charge of Liverpool, as quoted in The Irish Independent.

Things have not panned out the way they were expected for Flanagan this season, but the full-back does have the quality to make a bigger impact at Rangers during the 2019-20 campaign.
