Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers have a top player in Ryan Kent, reckons Jon Flanagan.
Jon Flanagan has told The Record that Ryan Kent has a ‘massive’ role to play for Rangers this season.
The 21-year-old attacker flourished for Rangers on Sunday as Steven Gerrard’s side thumped St Johnstone 5-1 at Ibrox.
The Liverpool loanee set up Scott Arfield for the Gers’ third of the afternoon, after Kent’s initial effort cannoned off the crossbar.
He’s a player who Flanagan knows well, having played with him at Liverpool for three years, and the 25-year-old says that the youngster, who opened his account against Dundee last weekend, has a lot to offer Gerrard’s side this season.
“He has been brilliant since he has come in. I have seen the talent that he is and he was probably unlucky not to get a goal today,” he told The Record.
“He is going to be massive for us this season. It is a long season and he is going to be needed.”
Kent certainly looks like the real deal, and Gerrard would know, after seeing him up close in Liverpool’s academy.
James Tavernier and Alfredo Morelos fired Rangers into a 2-0 half-time lead, while goals from Kyle Lafferty – who replaced Kent – and Daniel Candeias capped a fine second-half showing.
Consequence of the win, the Blues moved above Celtic and second place in the Scottish Premiership, five points behind Hearts at the summit.
