Flanagan has played with two of Rangers midfielders during his career.
Rangers’ newest signing Jon Flanagan has told the club’s official website that knowing midfield duo Scott Arfield and Jordan Rossiter will help the defender to settle at Ibrox.
The 25-year-old joins the Gers on a free transfer, becoming Steven Gerrard’s seventh new recruit at Ibrox. He teams up with the Liverpool legend once again, after playing with Gerrard at Anfield.
Flanagan had a year remaining on his contract on Merseyeside, but Jurgen Klopp allowed the former Bolton and Burnley loanee to leave the club for nothing. He was confirmed as signing a two-year deal with Rangers on Thursday.
Flanagan was asked whether knowing Arfield from his loan spell at Burnley and Rossiter from the duo’s time in the Liverpool academy would help, and he is confident that knowing the duo will help him settle.
“I think it is always good when you go to a new team if you know a few of the lads. But, I think, even if I didn’t know them, I’m a likeable character and I’ll bed in well with all the lads,” Flanagan said.
A one-time England international, Flanagan clocked up 51 appearances for the Reds during his time there, after Celtic icon Kenny Dalglish handed the defender his debut.
Flanagan is expected to act as James Tavernier’s back-up, but could also rival Wales international Declan John for a place on the left side of defence.
