Joleon Lescott has claimed that Gabriel Jesus‘s move to Arsenal is, in his opinion, the ‘signing of the season’.

The Gunners dropped £45 million on bringing in the 25-year-old from Manchester City this past summer.

It was quite a steep fee but by virtue of the fact that Jesus is already adored by Arsenal supporters, he’s certainly proving himself a bargain.

After nine Premier League games, the North Londoners are top of the Premier League after beating Liverpool 3-2 on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta’s side are certainly starting to look like the real deal and so much of that is down to the Brazil international, who has scored five Premier League goals this season.

Erling Haaland has netted a staggering 20 goals in all competitions since replacing Jesus at Eastlands, already grabbing a number of hat-tricks.

But in terms of overall impact, former City defender Lescott believes that Jesus has been the best signing of any Premier League outfit.

He told Livescore: “What Erling Haaland is doing at Manchester City is absolutely remarkable — but I believe Arsenal’s capture of Gabriel Jesus has been the signing of the season.

“If you compare Arsenal before Jesus arrived to how they are looking now, that is where we’ve seen the biggest transformation of all the teams in the Premier League. The Brazil international is something different. He brings such a high level of quality, work-rate and enthusiasm — not to mention the goals he has scored.”

Lescott is spot on.

There’s no doubt that Haaland is an absolute monster, but he joined the Premier League champions.

It remains to be seen how much better he has made Pep Guardiola’s side.

Arsenal, on the other hand, went from finishing fifth in the Premier League last season to – whisper it – challenging for the title this time around and therefore you have to say he has, at the moment, had a bigger impact in North London than the Norway international has had in Manchester.
