Everton are currently sitting in the Premier League’s top 10.

Former Manchester City player Joleon Lescott looks on during the Premier League match between Manchester City and Everton at Etihad Stadium on August 21, 2017 in Manchester, England.

Joleon Lescott has boldly claimed that in the ‘next five years’ it is ‘a possibility’ that Everton could break into the Premier League’s top four.

The former Manchester City player did admit that breaking into those Champions League place has become ‘a lot harder’ in recent times given the strength of some of the teams.

Marco Silva is currently in the Goodison Park hot seat and he has struggled to find real consistency this term after the club appointed him last summer.

Speaking to the Debate Show on Sky Sports Premier League (06/03/2019 at 10:55 pm), Lescott offered his thoughts on his former clubs top four chances and pointed out where they have gone wrong.

“Next five years is a possibility [for Everton to reach top four],” Lescott told Sky Sports PL. “I think it’s going to get a lot harder as it goes on now.

“I think this year there would have been an opportunity with the way Manchester United started and Chelsea have performed, but going forward I think they need to recruit consistently over the next two to three years then create a squad and a base of players.

“The last few years, they have recruited the same type of players. I think probably the summer just gone was the first time they brought a variety of positions. It tolled [the amount of number 10’s they purchased]. Wayne [Rooney], Sigurdsson and Klassen.”

In previous seasons gone by, most notably under Ronald Koeman and now Silva, Everton have spent vasts amounts of money to no success.

But during this campaign, albeit with a tough start, the Goodison Park faithful will be hoping that some of their summer signings will begin to show their worth on a more consistent basis.

In their previous match, Silva’s side held neighbours Liverpool to a goalless draw on home soil, which dented their chances in the title race.

Nonetheless, at this moment in time, the Toffees are 10th in the table, six points behind seventh-placed Wolves and a further 21 points behind fourth-placed Manchester United.
