Joleon Lescott has told Sky Sports that he believes no-one will stand in Sean Dyche’s way if the Burnley manager decides to take the Everton job.

Sky Sports claimed earlier on Tuesday that the Toffees are interested in the 46-year-old boss, but any approach is unlikely to be imminent as interim boss David Unsworth will remain in charge for Everton’s games against Lyon and Watford.

Speaking on Tuesday’s Premier League Daily Show, former Toffees defender Lescott claimed that Everton is a step up for Dyche but is adamant that if the former Watford boss wants to move to Merseyside then he will be supported in his decision.

“Everton need a manager more than Sean Dyche needs a club. He’s doing well at Burnley, but it can only bode well for Everton if they get him,” Lescott said.

“No one is going to discourage him from going to Everton. It’s a step up and it’s progression; Burnley are above Everton in the league but you would expect Everton to finish higher than Burnley.”

Dyche has emerged as one of the most likely candidates to replace Ronald Koeman after working wonders with the Clarets, turning the Lancashire-based side into an established Premier League outfit during his five-year spell with the club.

The Toffees decided to axe Koeman as they sit way down in 18th in the Premier League and are unlikely to qualify for the knockout stages of the Europa League, despite spending a huge outlay in the summer on the likes of Jordan Pickford, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Michael Keane.

Unsworth will be looking to secure his first victory as caretaker manager on Thursday evening, as he takes his side to France to face Lyon in what is a must-win game if Everton are to qualify for the last 32 of the Europa League.
