Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after hearing an update on Mohamed Salah’s potential involvement in the Olympic Games.

What’s the story?

Well, President of the Egyptian Football Association Ahmed Megahed has revealed that Liverpool aren’t allowing Salah to compete.

Megahed explained that the Reds don’t want to lose their No.11 for the start of the season.

Speaking to ONTime Sport, Megahed said: “We contacted Liverpool to allow Salah to join the Olympic team. Liverpool refused the request because they do not want to lose the player at the beginning of the season, as well as next January with the Africa Cup of Nations.

“We spoke with Salah again, and he told us that he will make a new attempt with the technical staff of his team, to resolve the matter, and within the next two days he will find a way.”

Liverpool will already be without the 29-year-old in January, when he leaves to take part in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Despite Liverpool’s stance, Megahed claims that Salah will try to convince the Reds to let him go.

Understandably, Liverpool fans below aren’t too happy with this.

Could be season defining

Of course, it seems exaggerative to say that losing Salah for the first few games could define Liverpool’s season.

However, with Manchester City looking as mighty as ever, Jürgen Klopp’s side need a fast start if they are to wrestle back their Premier League title.

If Liverpool planned to strengthen their attack, it might not be that much of an issue.

However, the Liverpool Echo believe Klopp isn’t planning to bring any new attackers to Anfield.

In that respect, Salah’s absence would surely hit hard, especially as Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino weren’t really on his level in 2020/21.

Salah scored 31 goals in 51 games last season, which was among the most in Europe.

It will be interesting to see if Liverpool change their stance, or remain firm – doing the latter could potentially frustrate the £34 million man, in our view.

For now, let’s see how the Liverpool fans on Twitter reacted to the news…
