Curtis Jones is setting the tone for a potentially brilliant season with Liverpool’s senior squad.
The Reds moved into the next round of the League Cup with a 7-2 demolition of Lincoln City on Wednesday night.
And it was a first-half brace from the 19-year-old Liverpool product that helped Jurgen Klopp’s side into a 4-0 lead at the break.
Jones established himself as one of the club’s most exciting teenage prospects last season, particularly because of a wonder goal in an FA Cup win over Merseyside rivals Everton.
Shamal George is from the same Kirkby academy as Jones, and the Colchester United goalkeeper, who was on Liverpool’s books for 11 years, summed up his old team-mate on Twitter last night:
George might get his wish as far as more coverage for Jones goes, especially if he plays just as well in the next Carabao Cup date.
Next up for Liverpool is a visit of Arsenal – in the Premier League and in the cup – and it goes without saying that if the Melwood product performs as well against Mikel Arteta’s side as he did against the League One outfit then it’ll only reinforce what people already know, that he’s going places fast.
