Gabby Agbonlahor has labelled the decisions not to award either Aston Villa or West Brom a penalty on Saturday as a ‘joke’ on Twitter.
From Villa’s stoppage-time spot-kick being overturned in cruel fashion as they suffered a 2-1 to Brighton, to the Baggies being left frustrated at proceedings over in Manchester.
All in all, it was another day where VAR, and those in charge on the pitch, took another hit from critics, who are beginning to get fed up of how things are being run.
It is understandable that Agbonlahor would back his former side, but he was even raging at the decisions that went against West Brom at Old Trafford, as he also praised their goalkeeper Sam Johnstone for his high-quality performance against his former club.
Johnstone started to make a name for himself when he spent 18 months on-loan at Villa when they were in the Championship, which included a heart-breaking play-off final defeat.
The Manchester United academy product then made the switch to the Hawthorns on a permanent basis when Villa went through a financial struggle.
But, towards the end of that season, Johnstone would suffer more heartache as he watched his former teammates win a penalty shoot-out in the play-off semi-final against West Brom before they earned promotion to the promised land by beating Derby.
However, that push over the line finally came this summer for Johnstone, when he helped the Baggies to the Premier League.
