Some Tottenham Hotspur fans are stunned by a pre-match post from the club’s official Twitter account.
Spurs are gearing up to face Premier League champions Manchester City in North London at 4.30pm.
With doubts over whether Harry Kane is going to face his potential future employers, Pep Guardiola’s side are big favourites to pick up an opening-weekend victory.
Adding to that, this is Nuno Espirito Santo’s first competitive match in charge.
A couple of hours before kickoff, the Lilywhites’ official Twitter accounted posted a motivational message of support.
Problem is, it included the phrase ‘whatever happens’ and suffice to say some Tottenham fans believe it to be defeatist.
Here’s what they’re saying:
To dare is to do
Considering the club’s motto is ‘To Dare is To Do’, yes this was an oversight by whoever runs their social media accounts, it has to be said.
But having said that, defeat isn’t a foregone conclusion for the Lilywhites.
If Kane is absent – and it seems like he may be – then the starting Tottenham players will feel a responsibility to prove that this is not a one-man team.
There’s no denying that Manchester City are big favourites but the underdog label might just suit the North Londoners today.
