Aston Villa fans are bemused with the news that Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier has been called up to the England squad ahead of Ezri Konsa.
Konsa has been in excellent form this season for Villa, with Dean Smith’s side possessing one of the strongest defensive records in the entirety of the Premier League.
Dier, meanwhile, has struggled for any sort of form in Tottenham’s team.
He has been pushed out of Spurs’s side recently by Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez.
Yet England boss Gareth Southgate has still favoured the Spurs defender for the upcoming internationals, much to Villa supporters’ fury.
Konsa has actually been linked with a move to Spurs in the Athletic, so he could become Dier’s replacement at Tottenham next season, if the North London side do make a bid.
Konsa and Dier will be in direct competition with each other this weekend.
Spurs are due to take on Aston Villa on Sunday evening, when Jose Mourinho’s side will be desperate to pick up the three points, after a disastrous Europa League defeat to Dinamo Zagreb last night.
