Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers signed Jason Cummings on loan from Nottingham Forest in January, but the Gers striker failed to make a huge impact at Ibrox.

Jason Cummings of Rangers arrives at the stadium prior to the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park on April 29, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Derek Johnstone has suggested in The Glasgow Evening Times that Rangers may not sign Jason Cummings on a permanent contract from Nottingham Forest in the summer transfer window.

Cummings joined Rangers on loan from Forest in the Championship in England in the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old striker arrived at Ibrox amid a lot of expectations, but the Scotland international failed to establish himself as a regular in the Gers’ first team.

The former Hibernian star scored one goal in 10 Scottish Premiership appearances for Rangers during his loan spell at Ibrox, according to Transfermarkt.com.

Rangers legend Johnstone has suggested that new manager and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard may not sign Cummings on a permanent deal this summer.

Johnstone wrote in The Glasgow Evening Times: “But Jason Cummings is touch and go – a real 50/50. I don’t know if I’d pay £1million for him.

“I loved him as a player in the Championship but he hasn’t shown an awful lot in the big league. He simply hasn’t been anywhere near the same at Rangers.”

Gamble for Rangers?

Cummings was brilliant for Hibernian before his move to Forest in the summer of 2017 for a transfer fee reported by The Nottingham Post to be worth £1 million.

The 22-year-old, though, struggled to make an impact at the City Ground in the first half of the season, but there is no doubt that he is talented and has quality.

If Rangers are able to secure the services of the young striker on another loan deal in the summer transfer window, then they should do it.
