Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is using Ross McCrorie in midfield.

McCrorie is a versatile footballer who can operate as a defender or as a midfielder, but Rangers manager Gerrard has deployed the 20-year-old in the middle of the park.
As recently quoted by The Scottish Sun, the Liverpool legend said that playing McCrorie at central defence instead of his usual position of midfield last season could have destroyed the Scotland Under-21 international in terms of his career.
Rangers legend Johnstone, who had two separate spells at Ibrox, has backed Gerrard’s decision to play the Scotland Under-21 international as a midfielder.
Johnstone wrote in The Glasgow Evening Times about McCrorie: “Steven trusts him as a midfielder and I don’t think there is any doubt that the holding role is his best position and where the manager sees him going forward.”
“Being able to play different positions is not a negative for a youngster but it is clear Steven wants him to be in the middle of the park and hopefully he can bring out the best in Ross this season,” added Johnstone.
“He has got all the attributes. He is quick, strong, he closes down players, he can tackle and he can pass. He can do it all and has a bright future ahead of him.”

Quality footballer
McCrorie is hugely talented, and working under a legendary midfielder like Gerrard is only going to help the youngster develop in the coming years.
The Scottish midfielder will make mistakes from time to time during his leaning process, but Rangers fans should have faith in him and should support him all the time.
