Alistair Johnston has hinted on Instagram that Victor Wanyama could follow him from MLS side Montreal Impact to Celtic, a move that would see Wanyama return to Parkhead – and right now, bringing Wanyama back; it makes sense.

Wanyama, 31, is set to leave Montreal after three years in Canada with the MLS outfit. He is out of contract at the end of the month and he is yet to announce the identity of his new club. He is still very well-liked in Glasgow, at Celtic.

Neil Lennon brought the midfielder to Glasgow in 2011. He remained for two years, winning two Premiership titles and clocking up 91 appearances. He left to pursue a career in the Premier League. Starring for Southampton and Spurs.

Wanyama has since been playing alongside new Celtic signing Johnston at Montreal. But after impressing for Canada at the World Cup, Johnston has gone to Celtic – a likely replacement for Josip Juranovic. He is a fan of social media.

Indeed, this week, Johnston posted on Instagram while on holiday in Italy. He made a joke about his holiday location not being Paradise, which prompted a response from Wanyama – before Johnston hinted that he could join him.

Johnston hints Wanyama could follow him to Celtic: It makes sense

Callum McGregor is expected to return to the field after the World Cup break after a couple of months on the sidelines with injury. But n his absence, it has been clear how much Celtic and Ange Postecoglou have missed him in midfield.

Aaron Mooy has impressed at the World Cup for Australia, but he does not have the agility to be a holding midfielder. He is more of a midfielder the holding midfielder passes to, to unleash his passing range. Reo Hatate is box to box.

Matt O’Riley is a playmaker. Yosuke Ideguchi and James McCarthy are being linked with an exit, and Oliver Abildgaard is yet to show why he was brought to the club. Celtic need another McGregor and on a free, Wanyama is perfect.
