Celtic managed to land one attacker in January, as they raided Jagiellonia Bialystok for young forward Patryk Klimala.
Before the global pandemic, it was all about Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths. They were forming a dangerous partnership in the Celtic attack, scoring with real regularity.
Despite landing Klimala in January, Celtic may still need another attacker going forward. There are fears that Edouard may leave this summer, with huge clubs looking to sign him.
Celtic may need to have a list of potential replacements just in case Edouard does go, and Utrecht star Gyrano Kerk may be one name.
The Dutch forward has starred this season, hitting 10 goals and seven assists in 24 Eredivisie games. Capable of playing anywhere across the attack, Kerk has blistering pace and is now emerging as a real talent.
Now, Utrecht boss John van den Brom has admitted that Celtic wanted Kerk in January. As quoted by The Daily Record, Van den Brom suggested that Celtic ‘were the club most interested’ earlier this year.
Van den Brom believes that there will be major interest in Kerk this summer, but didn’t actually suggest that Celtic will be back in for him.
“At this moment there are no actual concrete offers for Gyrano, but Celtic were the club most interested,” said Van den Brom. “I suspect the coronavirus pandemic will put most transfers on hold just now, but I think the transfer window will be extended to September this year.
“And when that happens I think there will be a lot of interest in Gyrano again. We are expecting that.”
Celtic may well be keen, but a deal won’t be cheap – even in the current climate. The 24-year-old would be an exciting addition for the Bhoys, and Van den Brom’s comments suggest that he is high on Celtic’s wish list.
