Aston Villa are said to be closing in on a deal to sign John Terry.

John Terry is said to be close to signing for Aston Villa by the Daily Mirror, and his arrival would surely spell the end for Micah Richards.

Richards is one of Villa’s highest earners currently, and already seems likely to leave the Midlands club this summer.

But if Terry signed for the claret and blues, then Richards’ chances of forcing his way back into Steve Bruce’s team would surely be over.

Terry is a certain starter for Villa if he does join, and will go straight into Bruce’s first-team.

And with Richards already struggling for game time, it is hard to see where the former England international fits in, if Terry is to arrive.

Aston Villa's Micah Richards

Richards’ career has stalled badly at Villa, and the 28-year-old now needs to move elsewhere to re-find his top form.

Richards made just three appearances for Villa last season, and it seems that his chances will be even more limited if he sticks around next term – given Bruce’s transfer plans.
