John Terry responded to Tom Heaton’s Instagram message after the goalkeeper told Aston Villa fans that he is ‘getting closer’ to returning to action.

The England international has been on the sidelines since New Year’s Day when he suffered a serious knee injury at Burnley.

It was an unfortunate afternoon for Dean Smith because Heaton wasn’t the only one sidelined for the rest of that season because striker Wesley suffered his own bad luck.

But it seems as though both are edging closer to action, with Heaton seemingly preparing for a U23’s game next week, as he sent this message to Villa fans on Instagram.

In the comments section, Terry simply wrote: ‘Great to have you back, mate’. Whilst Tyrone Mings added: ‘It’s beautiful’.

Orjan Nyland was the man to step in between the sticks when Heaton was injured, with the club also bringing in the experienced Pepe Reina in January, as both ended up battling for that number one spot.

Ironically enough, both have since moved on and Emi Martinez is now guarding Villa’s goal, with Jed Steer the back-up.

But one thing is for sure, despite suffering unfortunate injuries to goalkeepers in recent seasons, Villa always seem to find gems in the market.
