John Terry has posted on Instagram ‘good luck mate’ after Aston Villa defender Matty Cash switched allegiances to Poland.
On Tuesday, Villa’s right-back posted that this is a ‘very important and proud’ day for himself and his family.
Including Terry, a number of current and ex-players congratulated Cash on his call, including the likes of Yannick Bolasie, Jermaine Jenas and Aaron Tshibola.
Cash’s Polish citizenship being approved by those in power at Poland, now means that he can represent them at next month’s World Cup qualifiers.
It also means that he will more than likely be heading to next year’s World Cup in Qatar.
During these past 12 months, Villa’s £65k-a-week man (Spotrac) has come a long way in his career.
From playing his first full season as a right-back in Nottingham Forest colours and then being snapped up by Villa last summer.
He fitted in like a glove at Villa Park and helped Dean Smith’s side secure 15 clean sheets.
And now, this is another career-changing move from the all-action right-back, because, without his switch to Poland, would he have got any caps for England? Probably not.
Trent Alexander-Arnold isn’t even a regular for his country, so that in itself shows how deep the depth of quality is in that area.
