Gareth Southgate has signed a new contract that will see him continue as the England manager until 2024, and John Terry is seemingly over the moon.
Say what you will about Southgate’s tactics, but he’s absolutely earned this new deal to continue to lead the Three Lions.
Southgate has led England to their first World Cup semi-final since 1990 and their first ever European Championship final, and if it weren’t for a few dodgy penalties, he would have led the nation to their first major honour since 1966.
John Terry has his say on Southgate appointment
However, despite his incredible track record, Southgate’s new deal has seemingly divided opinion online, but one man who is over the moon about it is former England captain John Terry.
Terry took to social media to celebrate what he describes as ‘great news’ and we have to agree with his sentiment.
Southgate has earned the opportunity to lead England into the next World Cup and the next European Championships, and if the Three Lions can continue on this upwards trajectory, you have to fancy them to win one of those tournaments.
It truly feels as though England are on the brink of a golden generation, and Southgate is certainly the right man for the job right now.
