John Terry is preparing to try and spearhead a Championship promotion push for Aston Villa.
John Terry has conceded that he is not always going to be at his best during his time with Aston Villa, but insisted that the fans will be pleased with his overall contribution come the end of the campaign, the Daily Mirror reports.
Terry is just days away from making his competitive debut for the Villans after completing his summer switch from Chelsea, and there is no question that his arrival has increased the level of expectation on the entire team given the sensational career he has enjoyed.
But while Terry suggested that his form will generally please the supporters, he outlined that it would be wrong to get carried away with how easy he will find it adapting to the demands of the Championship.
“I have experienced pressure at the highest level, whether as England captain or Chelsea captain. I have been scrutinised, rightly or wrongly, over the years but that comes with football nowadays. That doesn’t bother me at all,” he said, as reported by the Mirror.
“I am not going to perform well every game, I know that going into every season. But what I will give is everything and I am pretty sure over the 46 games there are going to be a lot more better games than the other way.”
While Villa have certainly landed one of the signings of the summer by bringing the 36-year-old to the club during this window, there will still be plenty of intrigue as to how he will cope against the better forwards the second tier has to offer.
His experience should arguably ensure that few strikers will be capable of getting the better of him in a one-on-one situation, and if the rest of the squad are motivated by that – if he does indeed thrive most weeks – that may prove extremely beneficial to Steve Bruce’s squad as they look to challenge for promotion.
