While the rise to prominence of the 21-year old this season may come as a surprise to some, Swift is a player who has had a impressive youth career. He started his football education at the Chelsea academy when he was a teenager and started representing his country from Under-16 level. Swift progressed through to the senior ranks at Stanford Bridge and made his lone league appearance in the last game of 2013/4 season against Cardiff City as a late substitute.

As with many young players he has has had to travel down the path of being a loanee, having made stops at Rotherham United, Swindon Town and Brentford before making a permanent move to the Royals in the summer. The continued good form of the youngster will not have gone unnoticed by the clubs in the Premier League but you get a feeling that Reading wont want to lose him so early into his career at the club. One thing is certain however, the career of John Swift is well and truly on the rise.
