The Hearts defender has been linked with a move to Villa Park this week.

This week it was reported by The Sun that Aston Villa were interested in signing Hearts defender John Souttar. They claimed that the Championship side had watched him in action on several occasions recently and were keen to bring him in from Scotland.

Now, a report from the Falkirk Herald, has suggested how the 20-year-old has reacted to those reports.

They report that Souttar informed them he had not been distracted by the Aston Villa rumours and that he feels no need to comment on the speculation with his manager Robbie Neilson.

Souttar is certainly a down-to-earth character and it would seem he has no desire to stoke the flames of this apparent transfer story.

The young defender, who can also play in midfield, only joined Hearts in February after his performances dipped at struggling Dundee United in Scotland.

Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce will be looking to out his own stamp on the first-team at Villa Park in the winter – as he looks to lead the club up the Championship table and toward a potential promotion challenge.
