Christian Eriksen has been at Tottenham Hotspur since 2013.

Legendary Denmark defender John Sivebaek has advised Christian Eriksen to remain at Tottenham Hotspur, speaking to The Daily Star.

The 25-year-old playmaker suggested in June that it would be difficult to turn down a move to Barcelona if the Catalan giants were to come knocking for his signature.

There has been very little talk of Eriksen – who signed a four-year contract extension last September – leaving North London this summer, with the gossip focusing around Kyle Walker, Eric Dier and Harry Kane for the most part.

But although former Manchester United man Sivebaek believes Tottenham is the best place for him at the moment, the ex-Denmark right-back, who won 87 caps, claims that he could go on to be one of the greats if he joins a Barcelona or a Real Madrid.

“Christian is very close to being one of the best midfielders in Europe – if not the world. He can do that in the next two or three years if he continues to progress the way he has done in the past few years,” he told The Star.

“It could be at Tottenham, or it could be elsewhere. If he moves to Barcelona or Real Madrid – one of the really big-money clubs – he can go on to be one of the greats. I can understand the pull of a bigger club, especially the money – that is always very important.

“But I think he is in the right place at the moment. He is playing well every week. He is at a very good club in Tottenham and has some good team-mates and a great manager.”

The Danish star certainly seems to be enjoying his football under Mauricio Pochettino and Sivebaek is right, leaving, at this moment, would be a mistake.

At 25, Eriksen is only going to get better and Tottenham should make sure they benefit from his improvement.
