John Sheridan insists Leeds deserve to be in the Premier League

John Sheridan has backed Leeds United to put themselves in the Championship promotion mix this season.

John Sheridan has told The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT (broadcast on 12th October 2017; 7:38 am) that he is hoping that Leeds will secure promotion to the Premier League this season and insisted that the fans are brilliant.

It has been a positive start to the season for Thomas Christiansen’s men. While they have lost three of their last four league games, if Whites fans had been offered fifth place in the table coming out of this international break at the start of the season, many would have surely taken it given the number of changes that took place at Elland Road over the summer.

And Sheridan – who spent seven years at Leeds, making 230 league appearances and scoring 47 goals in that time before his departure in 1989 – insisted that he cannot wait to see the Whites make it back into the top flight.

“I thought they were absolutely flying. They’ve just had a couple of bad results of late,” he told The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT.

“They’re a massive club, the supporters are brilliant. I think they should be in the Premiership. I’m hoping they will be in and around the top end of the table at the end of the season because I think they deserve to be in the Premiership.”

It will be extremely interesting to see how Christiansen’s men respond to their recent run when they return to action this weekend as they host Reading at Elland Road.

Every Championship side tends to go through at least one bad patch of form during the season, and how Leeds respond during the coming weeks will arguably provide a major indication of whether they are a team that started brightly but have been found out, or a genuine promotion contender that have simply gone through their bad patch.
