John Sheridan has told The Star that Sheffield Wednesday will finish in the top six of the Championship this season.

Wednesday are 11th in the Championship table at the moment with 23 points from 16 matches.

The Owls are three points behind Aston Villa, who are currently sixth in the standings and occupy the final playoff spot.

Former Leeds and Wednesday midfielder Sheridan, 53, has backed Carlos Carvalhal’s side to clinch a playoff spot.

Sheridan told The Star: “I would fancy them to get in or around the play-offs. Definitely so.”

Carlos Carvalhal’s side’s start to the season was far from great, but their recent form and results have been encouraging.

Wednesday have finished in the top six of the Championship for the past two seasons, and the players know what it takes to clinch a playoff spot.

The Owls have one of the strongest squads in the Championship, and the Hillsborough Stadium faithful should be optimistic that the team will finish in the top six at least.

Carvalhal’s side will take on Bristol City at the Hillsborough Stadium in the Championship next weekend.
