Leeds United’s forgotten man Lee Erwin scored an important brace last night for Oldham Athletic to help them to a 2-1 win.

Erwin is in his second loan spell away from Elland Road, having failed to make an impact for Leeds since signing from Motherwell.

This season he has found it tough going at League One side Oldham, but last night it all came together.

Former Leeds midfielder John Sheridan is the current Oldham boss, and he spoke afterwards about how pleased he was for the Scottish striker.

He told BBC Manchester “I’m pleased for Lee. He’s not figured too much, even throughout the season before I came. I felt we had to play off the front foot. I’m not afraid of making changes.

“They are good goals, in the six yard box, he’s anticipated it. Sometimes you don’t follow them in, the best goals for strikers are little tap ins.

“I’m glad he’s scored the goals. He’s probably been getting a bit of stick because he’s not been scoring, but thats what he’s got to do, what he’s been brought here to do, and I’m really chuffed for him. If he scores goals he’s making it difficult for me to leave him out of the team.”

Before last night Erwin had scored just three league goals in 26 appearances, and two more in cup competitions.

His tally for the season now stands at a more respectable seven goals, and there is still time for the 22-year-old to finish with a flourish and start trying to send a message to Leeds.

Fans were taken aback to see him making an impact. Here is a look at the reaction last night from Leeds and Oldham supporters…
