Sunderland came back from 3-0 down to claim a point against Bristol City.
The Black Cats looked to be on the wrong end of another humiliating defeat at Ashton Gate, when they were taken apart in the first 45 minutes.
And Coleman was not happy with the manner that his side were performing.
O’Shea said: “We’re 3-0 down, the manager is saying to us ‘look, there’s ways of losing a game, but this isn’t it. You need to stand up for yourselves better.’”
Coleman’s words obviously had the desired impact as Sunderland completed a remarkable comeback in the second half.
The Black Cats have looked dead and buried for much of the season so far, but they showed that there is still some fight left in them last Saturday.
Coleman’s men managed to pull the score back to 3-3 with a wonderful late showing.
Although the draw did not take Sunderland out of the relegation zone, it has at least given them some momentum.
Sunderland are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Brentford at the Stadium of Light.
