John O’Shea has made just four appearances for Sunderland so far this season.
John O’Shea has told the Chronicle that he is ready to help Sunderland, if called upon by David Moyes.
O’Shea started the season out of favour at the Stadium of Light, with Lamine Kone and Papy Djilobodji seemingly Moyes’ first choice pairing in the centre of Sunderland’s defence.
However, O’Shea was called upon to start in Sunderland’s last Premier League match against West Bromwich Albion.
The Black Cats managed to pick up a 1-1 draw against Tony Pulis’ side last weekend, and O’Shea is hoping that he has done enough to retain his place.
“It was good to get 90 minutes under my belt,” said O’Shea.
“I feel I can help this team right now, and that’s important for me, but we’re disappointed we didn’t get that clean sheet because that’s what we were hoping for.
“It’s good to have young lads, but we need as much experience and quality to get up the league.”
O’Shea is now reaching the twilight of his career, after hitting the age of 35.
The former Manchester United man has made just four appearances so far this term, but with Sunderland’s defence struggling Moyes has called upon the defender’s experience.
It remains to be seen whether O’Shea will remain in Sunderland’s starting line-up when they return to action after the international break.
The Black Cats’ next match comes against Stoke City at the Bet365 Stadium in two weekends’ time.
