Sunderland have signed Jake Clarke-Salter on loan from Chelsea for the season.

Clarke-Salter has been brought to Sunderland on loan from Chelsea for the rest of the season, becoming Chris Coleman’s first addition at the Stadium of Light.
The centre-back has only a limited amount of first-team experience to his name so far, but O’Shea has praised Clarke-Salter for making a positive impact already.

“He trained yesterday, very positive. Great vocally, technically he looks to be a very good talent and let’s just let him settle in and enjoy the experience,” O’Shea said.
“I remember the first couple of loans I had, it can be daunting. He has gone from a massive club and is willing to come and fight to keep us up, that’s a positive because he will have had other options. Anyone who comes in will have a chance to play if they can maintain the level of performance that will be crucial.”
Clarke-Salter is expected to come straight into Sunderland’s starting line-up, with Coleman desperate for an injection of quality.
The Black Cats have badly struggled defensively this season, and they will need the Chelsea loanee to hit the ground running.

Sunderland are currently sat at the bottom of the Championship table, with Coleman needing to put a run of wins together quickly.
The Black Cats have improved since Coleman took charge, but he has been unable to take them North East side away from the drop zone.
Clarke-Salter’s debut could come on Saturday, when Sunderland take on promotion chasing Cardiff City.
