John O’Shea backs new Sunderland recruits to make a positive impact

The skipper feels that Sunderland’s new loan signings will make significant contributions moving forward.

After returning from international duty with the Republic of Ireland, captain John O’Shea has backed Sunderland’s new recruits to make an impact once the Premier League resumes this weekend.
“Yann [M’Vila] is going from strength to strength with us,” O’Shea said, in quotes collected by the Shields Gazette. “It was a tremendous strike at Aston Villa and he’s getting better by the game, now he’s getting used to the Premier League. He’s starting to show his quality.”
The French midfielder has been a fixture in Dick Advocaat’s plans since he arrived on loan from Rennes; starting all three of Sunderland’s most recent games, and weighing in with a goal to his name before the international break commenced.
M’Vila has also recently been joined by the Swedish international Ola Toivonen, who arrived in the same capacity from Rubin Kazan. He made his debut in a short cameo at Villa Park at the end of August.

Speaking on the 29-year-old’s contribution during his short time at the club, O’Shea assured that he took positive signs from the Swede’s brief introduction against Aston Villa.

“Ola is an experienced international player too,” the captain said. “There were plenty of tackles flying around him at Villa, so he knew he was in a game, but he showed some lovely link-up play and that’s going to be important for us.”

Sunderland resume their faltering season at home to Tottenham Hotspur this weekend, where Dick Advocaat will be hoping his captain’s reviews of M’Vila and Toivonen ring true in helping their cause.

The Black Cats are yet to pick up a victory in the new Premier League campaign, and currently sit bottom of the league with just two points to their name after four games.
