John Obi Mikel has suggested that the Premier League is ‘too fast’ for Tottenham transfer target and struggling Chelsea striker, Romelu Lukaku.

Last summer, Lukaku was making a return to Chelsea colours when the-then Champions League holders paid a club-record £97.5 million to Inter Milan for his talents (Sky Sports).

The 29-year-old had thrived under the stewardship of Antonio Conte, but fast forward to today and Lukaku is seemingly heading for the exit door at Stamford Bridge.

There are suggestions that Inter want to bring him back to the San Siro, but there are also claims that Conte wants to re-unite with him at Tottenham, alongside Harry Kane.

Lukaku scored only eight Premier League goals last season, as Mikel shared his thoughts on why the Belgium international has struggled.

“The league is totally different,” said Mikel. “The English league is too powerful. Too strong and too fast. Whereas, the Italian league is too slow.

“But in the English league there is too much quality. I am not going to say too much, but I think the pace of English football is way too much for the Italian league. You can play in the Italian league until you are 40.”

CONTE COULD REIGINTE LUKAKU AGAIN

Conte has been in the Tottenham dugout for less than a year and he is already working his magic, including helping the club make a return to the Champions League.

Given what the Italian did with Lukaku at Inter, you wouldn’t bet against him doing the same in the colours of Tottenham.

But, the issue Conte faces is Spurs doing any transfer dealing with Chelsea because, at the end of the day, they don’t exactly see eye-to-eye.

Plus, it would be a surprise to see Lukaku pick Tottenham over Inter if he had a choice because he played his best football with the Serie A giants.
