Crystal Palace, Swansea City, Everton and West Ham players join two from top four clubs to make up John Motson’s top six players.

Veteran commentator John Motson has picked his six Player of the Season nominees, with Leicester City star Jamie Vardy not included.

There is also no place for Arsenal ace Mesut Ozil, with Swansea City and Crystal Palace stars among his surprise selections.

Motson was speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club, and picked his top six performers from 2015/16, consisting of Riyad Mahrez, Dimitri Payet, Dele Alli, Yannick Bolasie, Ross Barkley, and Gylfi Sigurdsson, who he described as his ‘leftfield choice’.

All six platers are attacking midfielders, with Motson adding that he is a big admirer of ‘flair players.’

Riyad Mahrez has been the biggest contributor to his team of the six in terms of goals and assists, and it is the Algerian who Motson believes has the best chance to win the PFA award and Football Writer’s Award.

He said: “Payet has good a good chance, but Mahrez has got the best chance.”

Spurs ace Alli is likely to win the young player of the year awards, with Barkley his biggest competitor.
