Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic reportedly wanted John McGinn before he moved to Aston Villa from Hibernian in the summer transfer window.

McGinn moved to Villa in the Championship in England from Scottish Premiership side Hibernian in the summer transfer window for a fee reported by The Lancashire Telegraph to be worth £4 million.
Celtic were also interested in the 23-year-old midfielder, as reported by The Daily Record, and the Glasgow giants were claimed to have matched Villa’s offer for the Scotland international.
McGinn has suggested that he chose Villa instead of Celtic due to regular playing time at Villa Park.
The 23-year-old told The Herald: “I was so used to playing at St Mirren and then Hibs all the time, so it was really important that the next place I was going I was going to play. Thankfully, the manager so far has shown faith in me to go and play.”

Good decision
Celtic have a very strong squad and a superb midfield, with Scott Brown, Olivier Ntcham, Tom Rogic and Callum McGregor major figures in that particular department.
Although McGinn is a very good and talented young midfielder, the Scotland international would have struggled to play regular for the Hoops.
The 23-year-old is playing regularly for Villa at the moment and has established himself as an important player in Steve Bruce’s team.
McGinn has provided two assists in six Championship appearances for Villa so far this season, according to WhoScored.
