Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn has told The Birmingham Mail that Jack Grealish has more class than him.

McGinn, who joined Villa from Scottish Premiership club Hibernian in the summer transfer window, is also pleased that Grealish did not leave the Villans in the summer transfer window.

According to Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur wanted to sign the 22-year-old attacker this summer and made a bid of £25 million.

Scotland international midfielder McGinn is pleased that Grealish – who can operate as a winger or as an attacking midfielder – has not leave Villa Park.

The 23-year-old has also admitted that Grealish has more class than him.

McGinn told The Birmingham Mail: “First and foremost I’m glad I’m not getting compared to him because he’s got slightly more class than me. It means I can just give him the ball now!

“Keeping him was massive because if you want to get promoted you need to keep your best players and Jack is one of the best in the country.”

Strong start

Villa narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League from the Championship at the end of last season.

The Villans are aiming for the Championship playoffs again this season and have made a strong start to the season.

Steve Bruce’s side have won their first two league fixtures against Hull City and Wigan Athletic.
