Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn has told the club’s official website that he has been impressed with Alan Hutton despite the fact that the defender is a former Rangers player and he is a Celtic fan.

McGinn, who joined Villa from Scottish Premiership side Hibernian in the summer transfer window, seems to rate Hutton highly.

The 33-year-old right-back started his professional club football career at Rangers and has been on the books of the Villans since 2011.

McGinn told Villa’s official website when asked which player has impressed him the most outside the usual suspects: “I’ve got to go for the Scottish Cafu – Alan Hutton, which is amazing considering he’s a former Rangers player and I’m a Celtic fan.

“Now he’s my team-mate, I’ve got to give him a bit of credit. He’s really dependable – a top player and a top guy.”

The Scottish right-back will be an important for the Villans in the coming weeks and months.

As for McGinn, the Scotland international midfielder has made a good start to his career at Villa.

The 24-year-old former St. Mirren and Hibernian midfielder has scored one goal and provided three assists in 12 Championship appearances for the Villans so far this season, according to WhoScored.
