John McGinn has told Aston Villa’s official website that he spoke to Robert Snodgrass after completing a move from Hibernian to the Championship club in the summer.
The 24-year-old has starred for Villa since moving south from the Scottish Premiership side, scoring one exquisite goal against Sheffield Wednesday as well as contributing three assists in 12 league games.
He is one of the first names on the team sheet, even under new manager Dean Smith and has already struck a chord with Villa’s fanbase. McGinn spoke of how Snodgrass sold him Villa after signing on at the club.
Snodgrass was on loan at Villa and helped them come within a whisker of achieving promotion, but has since returned to Premier League side West Ham. McGinn also spoke of taking Snodgrass’ number – and his locker.
“He did mention it [the locker],’ McGinn said. “He said ‘not only have your stolen my number, you’ve also stolen my locker.’ It was all good fun.
“I didn’t before I signed. I didn’t really get the chance. It was hectic. But, after I signed, he contacted me and told me what a great club it was, fantastic dressing room and a brilliant support. He couldn’t have been more complimentary.”
Villa are struggling in the Championship at the moment, with Steve Bruce being sacked and replaced by Smith. The former Brentford boss earned a 1-0 win over Swansea, but they suffered a 2-1 loss to Norwich on Tuesday.
McGinn and the rest of his teammates will be hoping to get back to winning ways on Friday evening, as Villa travel to London to face QPR.
