Aston Villa star John McGinn has admitted his mistake against Tottenham Hotspur’s Mousa Dembele during Scotland’s match against Belgium.
McGinn featured for Scotland in their friendly international match against Belgium at Hampden Park in Glasgow on Friday evening.
The 23-year-old midfielder – who joined Villa from Hibernian in the summer transfer window for a fee reported by The Times to be worth £2.75 million – was at fault for Belgium’s opening goal.
The former St. Mirren star lost possession to Tottenham and Belgium international midfielder Dembele.
McGinn has admitted his mistake, and the Scotland international has also said that he has learned from it – which is certainly going to be helpful for Villa.
“It was mistakes that cost us but overall they proved how good a side they are and it was a good test for us,” McGinn told The Scottish Sun. “Myself and a couple of the other players made some mistakes.
“But it is difficult when a team like that is closing down all the space and they make it hard for you. It is just a learning curve. Next time, I maybe won’t take the ball in that position.
“However, that is the way we want to play and the way we are planning to play moving forward.”
Learning from mistakes
McGinn is still quite a young midfielder, and the Scotland international is bound to make mistakes from time to time.
The 23-year-old’s aforementioned comments about learning from his mistake bode well for Villa manager Steve Bruce and the Championship club’s fans.
